Our favorite grill master will be heating things up on the Food Network this Sunday! Ray Lampe, better known as Dr. BBQ, will compete for the coveted title of Grill Master Champion as he and four others face off in the grueling Arizona desert for a ?Chopped? showdown.
Haven?t heard of Dr. BBQ? SHAME ON YOU! This St. Petersburg resident is well known in the outdoor cooking world, appearing on such shows as the Food Network?s ?Tailgate Warriors with Guy Fieri? and ?The Best Thing I Ever Ate.?? He has written six cookbooks and even made a stop at Datz last month for a signing of his latest book, Slow Fire: The Beginners Guide to Real BBQ.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. BBQ about his experience on the show in which contestants are presented with a ?mystery basket? of strange ingredients.? According to the good Doc, ?When there is an ingredient in the basket that you?re not familiar with, you have to taste it and then figure out how to incorporate it.?? Talk about a challenge!
Although he couldn?t reveal much about the show, I asked what it was like competing in the harsh Arizona desert and Dr. BBQ stated, ?As real as it can be.? ~Tracy Guida
Chopped: Grill Masters will air this Sunday evening at 10 pm.
